Self-pay health services (in German: Individuelle Gesundheitsleistungen, IGeL) are medical services whose costs are not covered by statutory health insurance, but which your doctor considers advisable for you. Self-pay services are only provided if you wish. You must expressly agree to them.
You have to pay for self-pay services yourself, because statutory health insurers only cover the costs of specific, defined preventive check-ups and of treating illnesses (the benefits catalogue). Self-pay services are not part of this catalogue; they are offers that make sense because of an individual’s personal lifestyle (for example travel medicine advice and vaccinations before a trip abroad). Many self-pay services are very useful; we inform and advise you in detail about their type and cost before you use them.
Our self-pay services include:
- Shock wave therapy (all applications; exception: heel spur lasting more than 2 quarters is covered by statutory insurance)
- Acupuncture (except for the knee joint and the lumbar spine)
- Blood group test with emergency card
- Autologous blood therapy
- Hyaluronic acid treatment for osteoarthritis
- Plasma treatment for osteoarthritis
- Intramuscular injections (e.g. tonic injections)
- Kinesio tape
- Bone density measurement (osteoporosis)
- Laboratory tests (e.g. HIV test, PSA test, homocysteine, MCV)
- Liver values for the MPU (medical-psychological assessment to regain a driving licence)
- Travel vaccination advice
- Diving fitness examination
